Lynne Steele
Barry Steele was born in Selly Oak in the West Midlands, UK. The middle son of Sheila and Harry Steele, Barry joined the RAF in the 70's and served in Belgium, Germany, and Holland, as well as across the UK, It was whilst he was based at RAF Waddington that he met his wife Lynne, and it was in Lincoln that Lynne became aware that Barry had a fantastic voice, but it also became apparent that Barry was to shy to sing in public.
Following his career in the RAF Barry returned to Birmingham with Lynne and their children, they settled in Halesowen, and it was on a family holiday in 2002 that Barry took the first steps on the road to becoming a professional singer, when Lynne and their daughter Leonie entered him in a singing competition, It was during that competition that a fellow competition said to him, "You know you sound just like Roy Orbison singing Robbie Williams!" So with the help of his wife, family, many friends and colleagues, a tribute to "The Dark Star" was born. Barry quickly became totally enveloped in the music and the sheer magic that was Roy Orbison, his aim was simple his vision was clear; to deliver Roy Orbison songs to Roy Orbison fans and in same manner as they were originally performed. Barry has toured the UK, New Zealand, and Denmark in his own shows, he also spent two years performing as Roy to rave reviews in the touring show "Rockin on Heavens Door" where he toured Holland, Belgium, Austria and Germany before leaving in March 2009 to take to the road in his own theatre show, "Roy Orbison and Friends" Roy Orbison and Friends popularity continues to grow as the show tours the UK and beyond to rave reviews from both the venues and patrons. Both Lynne and Barry are very proud of the show, the band and of course being able to bring the musical genius of Roy Orbison back to the centre stage again, we they both truly believe it belongs. |
